Accelerated Orthodontic Treatment

Accelerated Orthodontic Treatment

Even though our digital appliance design and customised appliance manufacture can shave months off treatment times, some cases still require 18 months or more of treatment. There are a few available options to accelerate this process. The main limiting factor to orthodontic movement of teeth is in many cases the rate of bone healing and turnover. There are a few technologies that we can use that can help speed up this process. (Check the video below to see how teeth move)

Many adults are now undertaking orthodontic treatment, although there are many faster treatment and cosmetic treatments available.
In some cases complex treatment can still be lengthy and accelerating the treatment can be a great option.

What is Acceledent?

Acceledent is an easy to use, hands free device that can help accelerate orthodontic treatment in a non-invasive manner. Used for 20 minutes each day, it is the safest and simplest ways to shorten your treatment time.

How does Acceledent work?

Through gentle micro-pulses, called SoftPulse technology, bone remodelling is accelerated, allowing teeth to move up to 50% faster. We have found that Acceledent works very well with Invisalign/clear aligner treatment, with aligner changes every week instead of every 2 weeks.

PAOO: Periodontally Accelerated Osteogenic Orthodontics

PAOO uses a minimally invasive surgical procedure to soften the bone around the teeth thus allowing the teeth to move faster than with braces alone. The technique can speed up tooth movement by 2-4 times which means that in man cases treatment can be finished, in half the time, if not less.

Dr Tarraf is one of few orthodontists in Australia who has hands on experience with this technique and combining it with Lingual Incognito braces. The treatment is carefully planned with the periodontist or oral surgeon, as the procedure need to be timed closely with the placement of the braces.
This line of treatment not only allows faster tooth movement but it also allows expansion treatment in adults to broaden the jaws and accommodate crowded teeth without the need for extractions.
